Demeanor:
Rob Sharpe is a man who has seen it all in wrestling; it’s highs, it’s lows, it’s promise and message of hope, and it’s scummy underbelly. Somehow, he’s made it through so far with his sense of humor and his generosity of time and effort for the younger rising stars of today intact. He’s as salty a dog as they come, and has never been one to turn down a challenge or a fight; his willingness to bleed and make others bleed is one of the traits that earned him the respect of his peers, and a few offers of spots in their factions. When people say Rob Sharpe isn’t afraid to fight, they mean it; even as he approaches the wrong side of 50, he has taken on all comers without so much as a second thought, and win or lose, he has proven his toughness and heart every time, winning gold along the way here and there. And he’s far from finished.
Entrance:
It's 7:02, breaking all the rules
Dance the boogie-woogie and let's fire up the booze
'Cause we die to live, we die to live
Without any introduction, the old-school rock n’ roll-inspired Volbeat track “Die to Live” blares through the arena, cueing the imposing figure of the veteran Rob Sharpe to part the curtain to barrel out and stomp his way to the ring, slapping hands and tagging some of the faithful with his companion, Barbra.
We know about the law, but that won't get us far
When the rattlesnake is shaking and the gun is on the floor
'Cause we die to live, we die to live
The fans, in appreciation of the Philadelphia native’s toughness and willingness to fight anyone, anywhere, show their appreciation, something the old salty dog smiles at as he approaches the battleground.
We can go all night 'til the morning light
And the mayor will be there too
Call the cops who got all the drugs
And then send them home by noon
Let it burn, let it burn
Oh, well, let it burn, let it burn
He gets onto the ring apron and raises Barbra while playing to the crowd, before stepping between the ropes and going to the far corner to ham it up some more as the music fades.
Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Blond hair, though it is closely cropped and visibly receding, almost shaved completely. Blue eyes. A build that shows he keeps fit, but doesn’t worry about being cut. Solid, thick, and powerful.
Ring Attire: Black pants with an old-style razor on each thigh, dripping blood. Black boots with red laces, black knee pads and braces, and elbow pads. Wears a beat-up, dingy old leather jacket to the ring.
Regular Attire: Real working-class kind of look; jeans, T-shirts, boots/sneakers, occasionally an off-the-rack suit.
Wrestling Style:
Brawler/Hardcore/Submissionist. He cut his teeth in the 90s hardcore/deathmatch wrestling scene, and earned a minor in Southern-style "rasslin'" that has aided him as he got older. He's also picked up a few submission holds that he'll apply sadistically as needed. NOT a technical wrestler. He won't go hold-for-hold with anyone, or counter-wrestle like ZSJ or anyone. He's a stretcher. Favorite moves include Kitchen Sink: good ol' knee to the gut of a running opponent. Preferred set-up to the Sharpe Turn. He can be compared to Eddie Kingston meets Masato Tanaka, with a twist of Terry Funk and WWF-era Dan Severn.
Pre-Finisher:
“The Zombie Stomp” (Super Dragon-style surfboard curbstomp)
“The Citywide Special” (Corner clothesline turned into a running bulldog headlock out of the corner). Named after a popular drink special in Philadelphia bars. If the rules allow it, he might do the bulldog onto a chair or some other thing that is considered unpleasant for one's face to be forcibly placed on.
Finisher:
“The Sharpe Turn” (Angle Slam). He can also use it avalanche-style off the turnbuckle, or onto anything and everything.
“The Agonist” (Calf slicer)
“Dawn of the Dead” (Redline finisher). It's the Zombie Stomp, except Sharpe will hold his opponent up and stomp their head without letting go of their arms, and when he finally does, he'll reach down and grab them again and repeat until the referee stops the match.
Signature Weapon: "Barbra," his baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire. And yes, the spelling is intentional, like Barbra Streisand.
Background:
Rob Sharpe is one tough son of a bitch. Sure, it’s easy to say that about somebody in professional wrestling, but Sharpe takes it to another level. Starting his career in 1997, the Philadelphia native, unsurprisingly, took to the hardcore style like a fish to water, and developed a name for himself in long-gone companies like IWCW, NMW, and even the legendary NWC. His career has had some stumbling blocks along the way, mostly brought on by fights with mental illness, but he’s managed to hold on. Outside of wrestling, he has proven a savvy businessman with success in restaurant franchising, and is fond of bolstering (or risking) his wealth with sports betting.
He came back to wrestling in 2017 under local promotion Warzone Ultraviolent Wrestling, where he proved he could still hold his own in the ring, going undefeated in the tournament to crown the company’s inaugural champion before it abruptly closed. On the day Warzone closed, he was scheduled to face the notorious Erik Holland; while the match never happened, Holland, impressed with Sharpe’s toughness and willingness to fight anyone without reservations, extended an invitation to join his Badd Breed, an invitation Sharpe humbly accepted.
From there, Sharpe went to Japan, working with Death Trip Wrestling, where he debuted against the infamous Teiji Shintaro, who is best described as a Japanese garbage wrestling reincarnation of GG Allin. Rather than express discomfort or attempt to get out of the match by any means, Sharpe relished the chance, and while he didn’t win the match, he earned the respect of the diehards of DTW. Since then, he has held the company’s Eternal Warfare Championship five times, and competed in the final to crown sister company Iron Japan Pro Wrestling’s inaugural Death Crown Champion. While injuries have kept him on the shelf for some time, Rob has come back to show how he’s still got what it takes to take on the best of the best.
Career Highlights:
IWCW World Champion, NMW Telecontinental Champion, NMW World Champion, NMW Extreme Champion (final), SCCW Television Champion, DERP 24/7 Champion, DTW Eternal Warfare Champion (5 times)
